Teaching Programmable Logic Control (PLC) with the ST290 Industrial Control Module from LJ Create
The hardware for this module comprises an electro-pneumatic production line system. A ladder logic programming editor and drive system, specifically designed for education, that mimics programmable logic controllers used in industry, is also included. All programming tasks that students complete can be tested on both a simulated production line and the real hardware system. By using the on-screen simulation of the production line you can turn every PC into a fully functioning training system. This means that you only need one hardware system in the classroom. Students develop and test programs on their own computer, before transferring the final version to the actual hardware. The ST290 Industrial Control Module brings a typical industrial application into the classroom, challenging students to think like real engineers and solve real problems. The well written curriculum materials supplied with this module introduces students to industry standard ladder logic programming. Through a progressive series of assignments, they discover concepts and programming techniques which are then put into practice during design challenges. The final task is for them to apply all their skills to design and test a parts selection system. The ready-made lessons, for both tutor and student provide a blended learning approach. This gives the opportunity for independent learning, team-work and group demonstrations to be carried out. Theory presentations in PowerPoint, enable tutors to …

Stands for “Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment.” Moodle is an open source course management system, orginally developed by Martin Dougiamas?. It is used by thousands of educational institutions around the world to provide an organized interface for e-learning, or learning over the Internet.
Moodle allows educators to create online courses, which students can access as a virtual classroom. A typically Moodle home page will include a list of participants (including the teacher and students) and a calendar with a course schedule and list of assignments. Other Moodle features include online quizzes, forums, where students can post comments and ask questions, glossaries of terms, and links to other Web resources.
Because Moodle is open source, or freely distributed, it can be an attractive alternative to commercial e-learning options.
What do you think? Answer below!
Face of Moodle

For all intents and purposes, Martin Dougiamas is the face of Moodle. Development of the main program elements occurs under his watchful eye. The evolution of the program has been predictable and stable. Yet that very stability raises concern in the minds of many potential users and at the first Irish Moodle Moot, they asked what would happen if Martin should fade away. Members of the audience in DCU were quick to point out that support for Moodle is strong on the ground and a visible part of the third level education scene in Ireland. What was/were your summer assignment(s) (Free-for-all Q.)?
Question by Desperate4Answers: What was/were your summer assignment(s) (Free-for-all Q.)?
I’m sure a lot of us are either scrambling to finish our summer assignments at the last moments (even if it is seemingly impossible) or if schools already started for you, for you guys, I’m sure some of you were in the same spot as me right now.
I actually didn’t have it that bad. I had two classes with summer assignments. I’m taking IB starting this year, so I guess I’ll be getting them from now on… but anyway, I had to read two books for history and one book for english. Then I wrote about 5 pages for one book report in history. (I haven’t started the next one yet. It seems rather short, anyway.) Right now, I’m half done with my english book and I’m jotting down notes to help with my questions that I have to answer. I also wrote a resume for english and some page on my future. I have one more for employability skills… waahhh… so little, but so complicated.
Overview:
Read 2 assigned non-fiction books (History… 1 had to be turned in mid-summer through Moodle. Hooray for technology, eh? Lol…)
Write 2 reports at a decent length (History)
Read 1 fiction book (English, but history related eww)
Answer a bunch of questions that are impossible to look up online (English… smart one, teach.)
Write an up-to-date Resume (English)
Write a paper on your future plans (English)
Write a paper on Employability Skills (English)
I wrote out a schedule for how I will do it all in 3 days along with adjusting my sleeping pattern so that I can be back in the spring of things for school to start. It’s pretty hectic, though I jammed most of the work in the first and second day so I could relax on the last day before the first day of school.
So, guys, what summer assignment(s) did you have? How did you finish them… or maybe you didn’t? All answers welcome, even those who got it out of the way early. Share away.
